Is Procratination bad?(part 2)
Those who postpone things at present fail to notice what they are losing.Leave alone the material benefits;but there is another thing which which those who are punctual and regular in their duties do well. That is the sense of fulfillment of having done a thing and enjoy a lightness of heart and enjoy a guilt free conscience. However much one may try to cover up his lapse,he himself knows it.When he is answerable to another for his acts of omission,he suffers hell at heart like country mouse which has been visiting the town. This is equally and forcibly true in the case of health. If there is any ailment one should attend to it immediately;many to do.But in certain instances, for reasons better known to themselves, people hide their ailments only to suffer later, when it may at times be too late. What can be done by means of a thorn, will then have to be done by means of an axe.
Hence the 'Psalm of life' says 'Act,act in the living present' if interpreted correctly it would mean the past can never be had and the future is not sure.So one would never postpone what one can do today. Thus when one is regular and punctual it adds to his dignity and brings him peace at heart.
Of course,it requires some dynamism and will-power to do one's duty on hand at once. There are side attractions,it may be a talk going on by the side and so on.Still one must be able to resist them and feel the work on hand to be more urgent and worthwhile than the side attractions. If only one were to keep a record of idle hours,it would be astounding.Without will-power one cannot overome inertia in us mentioned. One must develop the philosophy of life quoted in the 'Village Black Smith','Something attempted, something done, earned him a night's repose'.So never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
THE END
